■ MATLOCK looked comfortable with ten minutes left, but had to survive a late onslaught from Rushden.
Diamonds thought they had taken the lead after seven minutes, but when the ball found the net, it was ruled out for a foul on keeper Paul Cooper.
Shortly after the break, Ravi Shamsi’s shot was well saved by Cooper before ingenuity from Alex Byrne led to the opening goal. From fully 30 yards, he hoisted a shot over goalkeeper Dean Snedker.
