■ SUBSTITUTE Sefton Gonzales scored two minutes from time as Clitheroe avenged a recent league defeat at Widnes.
The Blues controlled a first half that was few on chances and quality as both sides struggled with the baking conditions at the DCBL Stadium.
They came close to an opener just before half-time when Billy Priestley headed narrowly over.
Widnes were the better team in the second half and will be questioning just how they didn’t win the tie.
