■ THREE up and cruising, Ives looked to be heading towards a very comfortable victory. But as players began to tire, they let the Poppies back into the game eventually only just hanging on in a nail biting finish.
Ives took the lead with a cross-shot from Jonny Edwards. They were then gifted a second right as a Gary Stohrer back pass caught keeper Billy Johnson on his heels and rolled into the net.
Skipper Michael Richens increased when he emphatically slammed home Dan Barton’s pull back.
