SOUTHPORT started their pre-season with a defeat as League One play-off winners Blackpool eased to victory at the Pure Stadium.

The visitors opened the scoring in the sixth minute as a low, driven cross found Demetri Mitchell, who had ghosted into the penalty area unmarked, and the right midfielder fired in from 12 yards.
Port’s Cameron Mason made a superb save on the hour mark to deny Shayne Lavery from inside the six-yard box.
Blackpool were reduced to ten men not long after as Kevin Stewart went down off the ball holding his ankle.
