TIME TO LET PIEGATE LIE

SO Wayne Shaw gets a £375 fine and two-month ban from the game for infringing betting rules. That was the real issue around his pie (or pasty) eating escapade during Sutton’s FA Cup tie against Arsenal last season, even if it did make Non-League look two-bob.
No-one wants to take the fun out of the game. I found it amusing, for example, when I saw a substitute eating chips during the first half of a sparsely-attended FA Cup tie recently, then having a ciggie at half-time. Different level, different showcase, however. And this was not about betting.
