Grayson always had such character

THE article and subsequent correspondence on Neil Grayson (NLP, June 14 & 21), recalled some great times covering Non- League for BBC Radio York in the 1980s.
Neil started his career at that time with top North Counties East League side Rowntree Mackintosh, under legendary local manager Jim Collis, a York fish and chip shop proprietor.
The most memorable game was the NCEL Cup final in 1988 which Rowntrees lost 2-1 to close rivals York R.I, managed by another local legend, ex-Leeds United’s Ron Mollatt. It was played at Bootham Crescent before a huge crowd of 2,000.
