BURY FC’s hopes of a return to football next season have been scuppered.
The Shakers were booted out of the Football League last season amid financial problems and the collapse of a last-ditch takeover bid.
While phoenix club Bury AFC are due to start life in North West Counties Division One North in October, the original Bury, founded in 1885, have been left out in the cold.
The FA confirmed on Friday that Bury FC’s application to join the National League System (NLS) for the 2020/21 season had been rejected.
