Luke Gregson steps down as Stotfold manager

After two seasons being declared null and void, Gregson was unable to lead the Step 6 Eagles back to the top flight

STOTFOLD are seeking a new manager after Luke Gregson stepped down due to work and family commitments.

Gregson led Baldock Town to fifth place in the Spartan South Midlands Premier division before he moved down a step to take over the reins at former club Stotfold.

After two seasons being declared null and void, Gregson was unable to lead the Step 6 Eagles back to the top flight – although he led them to victory of the Bedfordshire Senior Trophy final.

His final game at the helm was a 4-0 home win over Hillingdon Borough on December 12.

Chairman Phil Pateman said: “It was something of a coup when we convinced our former player to return to the club after a season in which we were relegated.

“His association with both junior and senior clubs, lure of the new stadium, and to be part of our ambitious project was enough to convince him and his family to put on hold a promised sabbatical.

“What Luke leaves is a club that is on the up. He has laid the foundations and it is for us all to build upon it.”

●  Darren Purbrick has been appointed as manager of Hellenic League side Chalvey Sports.

Purbrick, who was previously assistant manager at Woodley United, joined the Division One East side in January 2020 as number two to boss Matty Young.
