Boston United boss chuffed to land Shane Byrne

manager Craig Elliott couldn't hide his delight after finally capturing midfielder Shane Byrne.

The 28-year-old Irishman has left fellow outfit after five distinguished years of service, including an final success in 2018, to join the Pilgrims.

He has repeatedly caught the eye of Boston boss Elliott, whose patience has now been rewarded.

“He is a highly-regarded player within our league and he has consistently been challenging for promotion with a very strong Brackley team for a number of years,” he told the club's website.

“I have been trying to sign him for such a long time as he never failed to impress when I watched him play and, even this summer, I had to be patient due to the quality of teams trying to sign him.

“Shane's desire to be successful was apparent when I met him and I am glad he wants to be part of the vision of our club on and off the pitch.”

Byrne's former clubs include Bury,  and Nuneaton Town, and he follows former striker Jordan Preston, 25, into the Jakemans Community Stadium.

Meanwhile, Boston have lined up another attractive friendly. They will entertain on Tuesday, July 27 (7.45pm).

It's their first home friendly and will be followed by a visit from Grimsby Town on Saturday, August 7 (3pm).
