BURY Town came out on top in energy-sapping conditions at the Simarco Stadium.
They nearly scored in the fourth minute when Rob Budd was surprised by a long shot from Ryan Jolland.
The same player should have scored after 17 minutes when he missed the target with a free header.
Chi Osadebe looked lively in the Witham attack and he scored in the 40th minute when he latched onto a long ball and finished well.
Max Maughn equalised on the stroke of half-time when his low shot from wide on the left found its way into the net.
