DOWNBEAT Paul Cook said Chesterfield’s play-off defeat at Solihull Moors was “painful” and “difficult to take”.
Cook has been critical of his Spireites’ woeful form in recent weeks, but was buoyed by a much-improved performance in the Play-Off Eliminator at FC Halifax Town last week.
His side got off to a dream start with Joe Quigley’s seventh-minute opener but goals from Andrew Dallas, Alex Gudger and Callum Howe ensured they suffered play-off heartache for a second successive season and a fifth season playing outside the EFL.
