Duarte Martins bagged a brace for the Purps and Oliver Jenkins also scored for the hosts in their 3-1 home victory.
Shaftesbury are two points behind Stoneham in third but the Rockies suffered a dramatic 5-4 defeat at home to Andover New Street thanks to a late Shane Lock penalty.
Ex-Winchester City duo Claudio Herbert and Stuart Green were on target for Shaftesbury in the loss, while prolific striker Brett Pitman was once again on target at Cockrams.
