CANVEY Island took a huge step towards sealing their Isthmian Premier League status with a hard-fought victory over Hastings United at the Steve’s Taxis Stadium.
The result almost certainly relegates beaten visitors Hastings, who find themselves eight points from safety with just three matches to go.
Canvey Island made a bright start with Bradley Sach forcing Louis Rogers into a scrambling save by his post on two minutes. Hastings were just off-target with a header from a right-wing cross on 35 minutes.
