A TYPICALLY cagey season opener saw Billericay edge a game of few chances against Wingate & Finchley.
The home side started brightly and were ahead on six minutes. Frankie Merrifield, a constant problem for the visitors, worked an opening and crossed the ball to Jack Evans in space on the edge of the area.
Evans’ shot found the corner of the net after Charlie Grainger got a fingertip to the ball.
The remainder of the first half was relatively uneventful with few clear openings, the best chance falling to Wingate...
