Andy Carroll says it’s a “huge honour” to be named player-asssistant manager at Dagenham & Redbridge.

The former Newcastle, Liverpool and England striker, 37, led the Daggers for the final seven league games of last season as interim boss following the departure of Lee Bradbury in March.

Now the Daggers’ board member has agreed to assist new manager Lee Allinson while continuing on the pitch.

“Stepping into this role is a huge honour for me,” Carroll said. “There’s a real hunger around the club heading into the new season, and I’m looking forward to helping build something everyone can be proud of.”

Allinson added: “Andy’s experience, leadership qualities and passion for the club made him the perfect choice for this role.”
