Sam Ricketts insists he’s perfectly happy at Wrexham in the wake of being linked to the manager’s vacancy at Shrewsbury Town.
The 37-year-old is the bookies favourite to replace John Askey in charge of the League One side after guiding the Red Dragons into promotion contention in the National League in his first season as manager.
Wrexham fans will be forgiven for fearing a sense of deja-vu after Ricketts’ successor Dean Keates left in March of last season to take charge of hometown club Walsall.
But after Saturday 1-1 draw at Maidstone United, Ricketts confirmed there has been no contact with Shrewsbury and the supporters shouldn’t be concerned.
“The people who run the club are fantastic,” said the former Wolves and Bolton Wanderers full-back. “They’re not being paid, they do an awful lot out of their own time, and I have a great relationship with them. I’m sure if anyone phoned them they would tell me.
“I’m not knocking on the door and saying, ‘Has anyone rung?’ No, no – listen, I’m very happy here. What we’ve done so far this season is build a really solid start and all we’re trying to do every day is try and improve.”
Ricketts’ odds with the bookies shortened to favourite on Friday with Newport County manager Mike Flynn and former boss Paul Hurst also in the running.
