Wrexham run out of patience and sack Bryan Hughes

National League Wrexham have run out of patience and sacked Bryan Hughes only days after giving him the dreaded vote of confidence.
Hughes was shown the door late on Wednesday night as the Red Dragons parted company with their fifth manager in the space of 18 months.
The 43-year-old was under mounting pressure from fans at the Racecourse Ground with his side in the relegation zone and without a win in eight games.
After being backed by the club’s board publicly last Monday, a statement announcing his departure was released at 11.30pm after directors finally lost patience following back to back defeats at Aldershot and a 3-2 reverse at AFC Fylde on Tuesday night. There was no news of a successor or caretaker and it remains to be seen who’ll be in charge on Saturday when Wrexham host Ebbsfleet.
A club statement read: “Following on from our previous statement, Wrexham AFC can confirm that further discussions between Bryan Hughes and the board have taken place and following those discussions all parties decided that a change was needed. The outcome is that Bryan has left his position of First Team Manager with immediate effect.
“Following on from a promising end to the 2018-19 season in which the club finished with its third highest points total in its history under Bryan’s control, the club currently finds itself at the wrong end of the table and without a win in eight league games. We are fully focused on improving upon this situation going forward.
“We would like to thank Bryan for his hard work, effort and for acting in the best interests of Wrexham AFC at all times during his time at the club. Wrexham AFC will make further announcements regarding this matter as soon as possible. In the interim, Wrexham AFC will be making no further comment at this stage.”
The 43-year-old former Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic midfielder kicked off his career at Wrexham, making nearly 100 appearances in the 1990s.
Appointed in February on a three-and-a-half-year contract as the successor to Graham Barrow, Hughes steered Wrexham to a fourth placed finish last season before losing to Eastleigh in extra-time in the play-off quarter-finals.
After making a promising start to the club’s 12th campaign in Non-League, Hughes was sacked with Wrexham fourth from bottom having not won since a 1-0 home victory over Halifax on August 13.
