Former Tottenham and Colchester midfielder Kevin Watson is holding the fort at Ebbsfleet United after the National League's basement club parted company with Garry Hill on Thursday.
The departure of the former Dagenham & Redbridge and Woking boss, pictured, after less than a year in charge was announced only hours after the lunchtime dismissal of Craig Hignett at Hartlepool United.
Watson, 45, quit as Hungerford number two last month to switch to Stonebridge Road as Hill's number two. He will be at the helm for this weekend's home game with Maidenhead United.
He takes charge of a side two points adrift at the bottom of the table and six points from safety.
Hill, 59, had been at the helm since November 2018 and left in the wake of Tuesday night's 4-2 reverse at home to Torquay United, his side's third defeat in a row.
A club statement confirming his exit read: “Ebbsfleet United have today parted company with manager Garry Hill following Tuesday's 4-2 defeat at home to Torquay United.
“The result left Fleet two points adrift at the bottom of the National League table and six from safety.
“Assistant manager Kevin Watson has been placed in charge of first-team affairs and will take charge of the side for this Saturday's home match versus Maidenhead United.
“The club wishes to place on record its very great thanks to Garry Hill who has worked tirelessly to improve the team's situation this season.
“He was appointed last November and guided the club from 16th to eighth place, while helping oversee the financial restructuring necessary to the club's long-term future.”
