Solihull Moors skipper Kyle Storer has extended his contract with the National League club until June 2023.
Storer, whose current deal was due to expire at the end of the season, recently surpassed 600 career appearances after joining the Moors midway through the 2017/18 ‘great escape’ campaign from Cheltenham Town.
A key component of last season’s title-chasing team, the 32-year-old had made 93 Solihull Moors appearances and scored three time for the club before putting pen-to-paper on a new deal on Thursday.
The midfielder, who is captaining the side for the second successive season, told the club’s fans he is delighted to be staying in a statement released by “thrilled” Moors officials.
“It’s been a few weeks of negotiations, but I’m absolutely delighted to get it over the line. It was a pretty easy decision to be honest, so I’m happy.
“When I first came in we were struggling big time and looking at National League North football. We’ve gone from strength to strength on the pitch and off the pitch as well. It’s a great set-up to be part of and I’m looking forward to the future.”
Moors manager Tim Flowers said: “I am delighted that Kyle has decided to extend his current deal with Solihull Moors.
“He has been an important part of our success over the past 18 months, captaining the team that finished runners-up last season whilst also playing a large part in us currently sitting fifth.
“I made Kyle captain because he possesses leadership qualities, he has the respect of the dressing room and I am sure he’s a favourite with the supporters.
“He is also actively taking his coaching badges and within the contract extension, he will also undertake some coaching responsibilities and be available to work with our younger players in the forthcoming seasons.”
Solihull Moors chairman Darryl Eales hailed Storer’s extension as “fantastic news” in the club statement.
“The plans for building the club sustainably for the long term are developing positively and I’m delighted Kyle has committed his future to the Moors,” said Eales.
“Kyle is both an excellent captain and outstanding player as well as a great ambassador for the club. He buys into both our ambition on the pitch and the importance of building Moors in the community. This is fantastic news for the club.”
