AN emotional Martin Allen thanked his ‘Champion’ for providing ‘the Whitbread moment’ to extend Chesterfield’s flying start to the season.
Three successive wins at the start of the Spireites’ assault on the National League has been tempered by concern over the health of Allen’s assistant Adrian Whitbread.
And Allen put matters into perspective after his former Barnet midfielder Curtis Weston, whom he hailed as a ‘Champion’ after re-signing, clinched a closely-contested game against newly-promoted Braintree Town.
