GATESHEAD manager Steve Watson picked up an early Christmas present with all three points at Maidstone United which ensures the Heed have now won more matches so far this season than the whole of the 2017-2018 campaign.
Two goals from Luke Molyneux, sandwiching a Robbie Tinkler strike, gave the Heed a healthy three-goal lead, only for the Stones to hit back twice through Jake Cassidy and George McLennan to set up a tense finale.
“We just got a little bit scatty at the end of the game and I was pleased to see the full-time whistle,” said a relieved Watson.
