Alfie Payne departs Braintree

Alfie Payne

Alfie Payne has left newly promoted Braintree Town after 158 appearances for the North Essex outfit.

Payne was Braintree’s longest-serving player, making his debut in October 2020 in an FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round win over Hashtag United.

A mainstray in midfield thereafter, the former Norwich City youth has made the difficult decision to depart following the Iron’s decision to switch to full-time football after promotion to the National League.

Payne tweeted:

“A massive thank you to everyone that has been involved in the journey and supported me and the team. And a special thanks to all the players (some group!), coaching staff and fans that made it a season to remember!”
