Gateshead appoint

Gateshead have named former Heed defender Carl Magnay as their new manager.

The 35-year-old takes the vacancy following the departure of Rob Elliot to League One Crawley Town.

Magnay, who will be assisted by Liam Bridcutt, is well known to the Gateshead faithful having played 122 times for the club, which including two Wembley appearances as well as playing a big part in their National League North title success in 2021-22.

Magnay was also on Elliot’s coaching staff for last season’s Isuzu FA Trophy win over Solihull Moors and, this term, has been part of former Gateshead boss Mike Williamson’s management team at MK Dons and Carlisle United.

Gateshead chairman Neil Pinkerton said: “We are fully confident Carl is the right person to continue the club’s progression – just as he has done in his previous spells as a player and coach – and we look forward to see he and Liam get to work this week.”

Magnay takes over with the club sat fourth in the National League.
