York City’s long unbeaten run came to an end as play-off hopefuls Boreham Wood overcame the Minstermen, allowing Rochdale to take control at the top of the National League table.

Dale did enough to see off Brackley Town and move two points clear at the summit, while still holding a game in hand over their promotion rivals from North Yorkshire.

Elsewhere in the midweek action, Morecambe handed new Wealdstone boss Garry Waddock defeat in his first game in charge at Grosvenor Vale, while Southend United rescued a draw against basement side Truro City.

Here’s your full round-up of the midweek National League action.

Boreham Wood 3-2 York City

Ten-man York slipped from the top of the National League table and saw their 24-match unbeaten run end after suffering a 3-2 defeat at Boreham Wood.

Ollie Pearce opened the scoring for York in the sixth minute with his 29th National League goal of the season after connecting with defender Zak Johnson’s cross.

The hosts had a number of chances to equalise in the first half, with Abdul Abdulmalik coming closest as his cross was deflected onto the bar.

Lewis Richardson levelled things up for Boreham Wood three minutes into the second half, heading home from Zak Brunt’s corner.

York were reduced to 10 men in the 61st minute when Josh Stones was shown a second yellow card and the home side took full advantage, with Cameron Coxe putting them ahead after 78 minutes before Charlie O’Connell’s 87th-minute goal made it 3-1.

Ollie Banks pulled a goal back in added time, but York suffered defeat, with Rochdale returning to the summit after beating Brackley 3-2.

Rochdale 3-2 Brackley Town

Top scorer Emmanuel Dieseruvwe bagged a brace as Rochdale returned to the top of the National League following a 3-2 win over Brackley at the Crown Oil Arena.

Dieseruvwe took his tally to 22 league goals this season – and 10 in nine matches – as Dale capitalised on York’s loss at Boreham Wood to move two points clear, with a game in hand.

Rochdale needed just three minutes to go in front when Dieseruvwe pounced on Aidan Barlow’s cross before Zak Lilly headed Brackley level six minutes before half-time.

But Dieseruvwe restored Dale’s lead on the hour mark, with a fine finish past goalkeeper Jon Maxted, and Kyron Gordon marked his 100th appearance for the club with a third 19 minutes from time.

Lilly claimed his second in the fourth minute of stoppage time as Brackley suffered a fourth successive defeat, while Dale extended their unbeaten league run to 13.

Wealdstone 2-3 Morecambe

Waddock’s first game in charge of Wealdstone ended in defeat as Jack Nolan bagged a brace to earn Morecambe a 3-2 win at Grosvenor Vale.

Having signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, Waddock saw his new side make a flying start as Olufela Olomola put them ahead in the third minute from a free-kick.

Chris Popov drew Morecambe level in the 34th minute before Nolan nudged the visitors ahead in first-half stoppage time and then extended their advantage in the 58th minute.

Micah Obiero pulled a goal back for Wealdstone with 17 minutes remaining, but Morecambe held on for the win despite going down to 10 men in the 85th minute when Lewis Payne was sent off after a second yellow card.

Southend United 1-1 Truro City

Charley Kendall cancelled out Rekeil Pyke’s opener to salvage a point for hosts Southend from a 1-1 draw with Truro.

Pyke opened the scoring with a patient finish two minutes after the half hour, while Tinners goalkeeper Aidan Stone denied Andy Dallas a late first-half equaliser and George Cooper cleared the follow-up off the line.

The Shrimpers failed to finish from a few early second-half chances before Kendall finally drew the sides level in the 52nd minute.

Harry Boyes nearly fired the hosts in front when his effort bounced off a post, the goal frame also denied Southend’s Gus Scott-Morriss, and there was a big Stone save late on to ensure the sides would share the points.

Boston United 2-2 Woking

Managerless Woking halted their losing run with a 2-2 draw away to in-form Boston in the National League.

Neal Ardley was sacked by the Cards on Sunday after their FA Trophy quarter-final exit at Marine followed back-to-back league defeats.

But they started well in Lincolnshire with Olly Sanderson putting them in front after just three minutes when he turned in the rebound from Aiden O’Brien’s saved effort.

Tom Cursons lashed home a leveller into the roof of the net for Boston in the 38th minute, but Woking restored their lead before the interval as O’Brien’s effort was deflected in off Sanderson.

Boston ensured their unbeaten league run reached eight games when Frankie Maguire fired in a 65th-minute equaliser, but a sixth win in seven outings proved beyond them.

Yeovil Town 2-0 Tamworth

Yeovil Town earned back-to-back National League wins by beating Tamworth 2-0.

Troy Perrett saw a header fly wide of a post and he came close again in the 35th minute, sending an effort narrowly wide of the upright.

Ryan Jones then broke the deadlock in the 40th minute with a finish from a tight angle to put Yeovil in front and they almost struck again after the break when James Daly’s effort was cleared.

The Glovers extended their advantage in the 55th minute when Brett McGavin’s free-kick bounced off the goal frame and Declan Skura stabbed home the rebound to wrap up three points.

Hartlepool United 0-2 Sutton United

Sutton United boosted their fight against relegation and dented Hartlepool United’s National League play-off hopes with a 2-0 win at Victoria Park.

Pools had the better of the first half, with Jamie Miley and Matty Daly denied before Tyrese Sinclair threatened on several occasions, though Cameron John had to make a sharp block to deny Brandon Njoku at the other end.

Sutton captain Edon Pruti blocked Sinclair’s effort before the visitors took the lead against the run of play, Osman Foyo with his first goal for the club from Lewis Simper’s corner.

Jayden Harris went close to a second late on before Kai Jennings sealed the points from long range.

Gateshead 1-0 Braintree Town

Gateshead’s Keaton Ward scored in the fifth minute of added time to beat Braintree United 1-0 and boost their National League survival hopes.

The on-loan Altrincham midfielder curled home from the left side of the penalty area as the second-bottom club bounced back from defeat at the weekend to make it 10 points from five games off the back of a 13-match losing streak.

Victory left them seven points from safety with two matches in hand on the two teams above them, one of whom is Braintree, who had four good chances to win it themselves in the final 10 minutes alone.

Lewis Walker fired over before debutant goalkeeper Adam Desbois, signed from Slough earlier in the day, denied Chay Cooper and Aidan Francis-Clarke before producing his best save to block Sahid Kamara at close range.

The match began bizarrely when an attempted 40-yard backpass by Braintree’s Ben Drake sailed over Mason Terry and rebounded off the post, with the goalkeeper forced to dive on the ball and concede an indirect free-kick, from which Joe Grayson’s shot was deflected wide.
