After a significant round of midweek National League results, the play-off race comes to the forefront as several sides eyeing promotion face off this weekend.

Rochdale returned to the top of the table after their 3-2 victory over Brackley Town, and York City fell to their first defeat since the start of October to Boreham Wood.

There were also some massive results for the sides at the bottom of the table as 10-man Morecambe beat Wealdstone and Gateshead scored a last-gasp winner to topple Braintree Town to boost their respective survival hopes.

This Saturday, there are two live offerings for fans to feast on and with the margin for error getting ever thinner, here is a closer look at the pick of the action.

Boreham Wood vs Brackley Town

Kick off at 12.30pm GMT on Saturday, March 7th 2026 (Live on DAZN)

Boreham Wood will be feeling on top of the world following their shock victory over York, ending the Minstermen’s run of nine successive wins.

The Wood became only the third National League side to beat York and will now be looking to build a strong end-of-season run ahead of the play-offs.

With the top two out of reach, Luke Garrard’s men will be eyeing a third-place finish so that they can avoid a play-off eliminator at the end of April.

While Brackley can be proud of their performance against Rochdale, they must dust themselves off quickly, as they are in serious jeopardy of relegation.

The Saints are winless in their last four and are just three points above the drop zone, although they do have two games in hand on the sides below them.

Hartlepool United vs FC Halifax Town

Kick off at 3pm GMT on Saturday, March 7th 2026

Two teams hoping Southend United slip up on Saturday are Hartlepool United and FC Halifax Town, who could leapfrog Kevin Maher’s side into the top seven this weekend.

The Monkey Hangers suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Sutton United on Tuesday night, leaving them two points and two places behind the Shrimpers.

Halifax were not in action in midweek, but were able to pick up a point against Sutton last weekend and are level on points with Southend.

Given that both clubs have played significantly more matches than the Essex club, only a win will ensure they can keep pace with the top seven.

Rochdale vs Boston United

Kick off at 3pm GMT on Saturday, March 7th 2026

Rochdale will be striving to maintain their status as National League leaders when they welcome in-form Boston United to the Crown Oil Arena.

Jimmy McNulty’s side returned to the summit after their victory over Brackley in midweek, and York suffered a first league loss since October to Boreham Wood.

The title is now in Dale’s hands as they have a two-point gap over the Minstermen, while they also have a game in hand on their promotion rivals.

Boston United came from behind twice to draw 2-2 with managerless Woking on Tuesday evening, extending their unbeaten run in the league to eight matches.

The Pilgrims have enjoyed a superb 2026 so far and will be aiming to derail Rochdale’s promotion push in what could be a pivotal encounter in Greater Manchester.

Yeovil Town vs Scunthorpe United

Kick off at 3pm GMT on Saturday, March 7th 2026

Scunthorpe United will be striving to cement their place in the National League play-off positions when they travel to mid-table Yeovil Town on Saturday afternoon.

The Iron were not in midweek action, but will want to return to winning ways after throwing away a late lead to draw 3-3 with Solihull Moors last weekend.

Andy Butler’s side occupies sixth position and have a healthy eight-point cushion on eighth-place Halifax Town, while they crucially have two games in hand.

Yeovil secured a routine 2-0 win over Tamworth on Tuesday night to further boost their status in the National League.

Billy Rowley’s men had serious relegation concerns just weeks ago, but successive wins have launched them to 14th and nine points clear of the drop zone.

York City vs Eastleigh

Kick off at 3pm GMT on Saturday, March 7th 2026

York will need to recover from an unfamiliar feeling when they host relegation-threatened Eastleigh in the National League this weekend.

Stuart Maynard’s side were knocked off the top of the table after losing to promotion contenders Boreham Wood in midweek, with Josh Stones sent off in the 3-2 defeat.

That loss was the Minstermen’s first in the league since the start of October, and it means they are now two points behind Rochdale, who also have a game in hand.

While Eastleigh might appear an easy opponent, given their league position, they are fighting for their National League status and need to build momentum to ensure survival.

The Spitfires were narrowly defeated by Carlisle United last weekend and are two places and six points clear of the relegation zone.

Carlisle United vs Southend United

Kick off at 5.30pm GMT on Saturday, March 7th 2026 (Live on DAZN)

Third meets seventh in the National League as two teams eyeing promotion to League Two meet at Brunton Park.

Carlisle were not in midweek action, but will be looking to build on their victory over Eastleigh last weekend and cement their position in the top three.

Southend were only able to draw 1-1 at home with bottom side Truro City and have work to do if they are to reach the play-offs come the end of the campaign.

The Shrimpers occupy the final play-off spot and are ahead of Halifax by only goal difference, although they do have as many as four games in hand on the sides around them.

It promises to be a closely fought battle on Saturday evening and one that could shape the race for promotion.
