Richard Cresswell is the frontrunner to land the vacant York City manager’s role, according to the bookies.
The former Minstermen striker has emerged as the 4/6 odds-on favourite to take charge of the National League North side.
Sam Collins was sacked last Saturday evening following defeat at Curzon Ashton, a result which has seen them slip to the lowest position in the club’s history.
York are now looking for their third manager of the season after Martin Gray was axed in August.
Cresswell, 41, began his career with York, appearing 95 times and becoming a fan favourite, before moving on to Sheffield Wednesday, Leicester City and Preston North End.
He is currently head of academy coaching at Leeds United, another club he played for.
Cresswell returned to York as a commercial, academy and community development consultant in April 2014, before being appointed head of football operations before being appointed first-team coach under manager Russ Wilcox in March 2015.
He later took over as caretaker boss for one game in October that year but left the club six weeks after the managerial appointment of Jackie McNamara.
