The Heed add more firepower

Gateshead now have 12 players in their squad as they look to rebuiild after a disasterous campaign last year which saw them demoted from the National League

Gateshead FC

Gateshead have brought in another signing ahead of their first season back in National League North after the Heed signed striker Paul Blackett on a one-year deal.
The 21-year-old signs with the Heed after spending time on trial with the club during recent weeks and appeared as a substitute in the club’s pre-season opener against Middlesbrough. What are the odds of Gateshead winning promotion – find out here
Blackett is a product of Newcastle United’s academy setup and also spent time with Sheffield United as a youngster before returning to the North East with Heaton Stannington and Newcastle Benfield.
The Newcastle-born forward  told the club’s official website: “I’m buzzing, it’s a big step for me.
“It’s been a hard couple of weeks keeping my head down and trying to impress Mike and Busted but it’s been good, I’m glad to finally to sign the contract.”
Blackett’s addition takes the Heed’s squad up to 12, following the signings of two key players from last season in Greg Olley and Scott Barrow last week.
“Hopefully I can get as many minutes as possible, get goals and just be as big a contribution to the team as I can,” he added.
“I’m a bit nippy and I can score goals, I’ve always scored goals at the others club I’ve been at.
“I’m quite strong and I always like to play off the last man.”
