A defensive mix-up between Jonathan Hunt and Olly Thornley let in Jake Wright, who neatly flicked into the bottom corner from six yards.
Midway through the first half, the dominant Pilgrims created further opportunities as Wright and Ryan Qualter both saw efforts fall narrowly wide.
