BLYTH SPARTANS manager Lee Clark got off to a losing start at Croft Park.
Blyth won eight of their nine pre-season games under Clark. But the home side fell to defeat when league combat resumed.
A Joe Hanks penalty and Marlon Jackson’s second-half header proved decisive, Damen Mullen replying.
City’s Zach Jeacock was called into action in the ninth minute, producing a superb double save to deny Scott Fenwick and Adam Wrightson. Newcastle loanee Nathan Harker then produced a fine save to deny Joe Parker.
