BASEMENT BOYS BLYTH BATTLE FOR DERBY DRAW

GATESHEAD twice led in the north-east derby but couldn’t get over the line as basement side Blyth Spartans dug deep to earn a point.
Gateshead have now not lost in their last seven visits to Croft Park but this was two points dropped.
The Heed had three times as many efforts at goal and were twice denied by the woodwork.
But an under-strength Blyth showed great resolve to fight back twice and hang on at the end. Gateshead’s frustration boiled over in stoppage time as midfielder Jack Hunter was sent off.
