DAN MATSUZAKA was the late hero for Weymouth as they won their first league game at home this season.
Braintree had the first chance of the game 33 minutes in. A heavy touch from Matsuzaka saw Kyron Farrell hit the post. The ball came out to John Benton who flashed at an effort that was always rising over the bar.
Weymouth were through on the counter attack in the 64th minute, with O’Connell leading the line.
He saw the overlapping Harry Kyprianou and played in the defender, who cut the ball back to Rose, who struck towards goal.
