Barnet’s worrying slip down the National League table continued last night as they fell to a disappointing 2-0 loss at home to Chesterfield.
The Bees are now without a league win in six matches and find themselves just two points above the relegation zone in 19th position, but have at least four games in hand on the teams around them.
Chesterfield’s victory, courtesy of goals from Charlie Carter and Alex Kiwomya, led to them leapfrogging Darren Currie’s side, putting further distance between themselves and the drop zone.
In the National League North, league leaders Chorley secured just their second win in five games to gain a much needed three points against bottom of the table Nuneaton Borough.
The Magpies’ fans had to wait until midway through the second half for the deadlock to be broken when Alex Newby struck a superb volley from outside of the area, before Adam Blakeman put the result beyond doubt in injury time.
Meanwhile, both Kidderminster and Chester strengthened their play-off ambitions with victories over Ashton United and Blyth Spartans respectively.
There was late drama in the National League South title race as Torquay had to rely on a last gasp Ruairi Keating strike to come away from East Thurrock with three points, while Armani Little’s first half goal was enough to give second place Woking their ninth win on the road this season.
