MAIDENHEAD UNITED sealed a vital win over East Thurrock, on an afternoon when they were far from their best, to move five points clear of rivals Ebbsfleet United at the top of the table.
Maidenhead struggled to get out of third gear but had just enough quality and spirit to see off their enterprising visitors.
East Thurrock very nearly caught the Magpies cold when Ben Marlow guided a shot onto the outside of the post in the sixth minute.
