■MERTHYR snatched victory from the jaws of deafeat with a bizarre penalty deep into injury time converted by Ian Traylor.
Having started brightly the home side lost Corey Jenkins early on to injury with debutant Owain Jones replacing him.
But, on 16 minutes it was the substitute Jones who turned and fired Merthyr into the lead.
St Ives got the equaliser on 28 minutes when Merthyr defender Scott Tancock brought down Tom Knowles in the box and Danny Watson converted.
Tim Trebes made a super save to deny Merthyr’s Jaye Bowen on 32 minutes.
