BOTH teams were looking for their first points of the season and for the first 70 minutes there was little of note with few goalmouth incidents at either end. Hitchin’s Charlie Smith shot straight at Elvijs Putnins whilst Lowestoft’s Adam Smith saw his freekick parried by Michael Johnson but Shaun Bammant could not finish.
Hitchin took the lead in the 53rd minute when Matt Spring’s 20-yard effort rebounded out off the post to Dan Webb who hit it back into the net via the other post.
