BASINGSTOKE gave their fans an early Christmas present by holding on for victory over Walton Casuals.
Harry Pearse and Drew Matthews were handed their first starts for the club and the former took his opportunity, scoring the opener in a strong first half display.
He'd already tested visiting keeper Brandon Daly with a low shot before a cross from Sam Argent was deflected out to the edge of the box.
Running on to the ball he drilled a clinical firsttime strike across Daly and into the bottom corner from 20 yards.
