BURY Town lost ground on league leaders Maldon & Tiptree after Ryan Melaugh stabbed home the only goal of the game to hand victory to Canvey Island.
Having won their opening game of the year against Cambridge City last time out, the hosts were looking to close the gap at the summit against their mid-table visitors.
But Bury came up against a solid Canvey defence and after an even first half which saw both defences on top, the visitors went in front through Melaugh on 53 minutes.
