WINGATE & Finchley grabbed an opening day point when they replied within seven minutes of Sussex visitors Lewes taking an early second-half lead.
The game got off to a cagey start. But the Rooks nearly took an 18th-minute lead, only to be denied by a brilliant save from Wingate keeper Ben Goode.
Indeed, Goode made a number of crucial interventions to keep the game scoreless going into the interval.
Matters hooted up on the pitch after said interval. The hosts had chances, through Dylan Kearney and Tyrique Clark.
