WINGATE & Finchley grabbed an opening day point when they replied within seven minutes of Sussex visitors Lewes taking an early second-half lead.
The game got off to a cagey start. But the Rooks nearly took an 18th-minute lead, only to be denied by a brilliant save from Wingate keeper Ben Goode.
Indeed, Goode made a number of crucial interventions to keep the game scoreless going into the interval.
