■BURGESS HILL and Ashford kicked off the season with the Nuts and Bolts grabbing an opening day win.
The visitors broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-ime, with captain Liam Friend prodding in from a long throw.
Ashford competed a very professional second half, limiting the hosts to few chances. The hosts turned the screw late on but it wasn’t to be as the Kent side grabbed an opening day success.
Ashford boss Tommy Warrilow hailed his side’s defensive qualities following the victory.
