youngster Reece Thompson has earned a move to League Two side and netted the Step 3 club an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old joined NPL Premier Frickley last October from Step 5 club United and the striker impressed with 16 goals in 32 appearances.

Thompson had been on trial at York during pre-season and both the Minstermen and another League club had offers accepted over the weekend.

The young forward has decided on a move to Bootham Crescent, however, and has signed a two-year deal. While the fee is undisclosed, Frickley say there is a “substantial sell-on clause” included.

Blues chairman Gareth Dando said: “We’ve had a lot of interest in Reece and a number of offers for the player over the past few weeks.

“We got to a situation last week where we received offers from two clubs which matched our valuation of the player and the decision was then up to Reece. We wish him well at York and are sure he’ll be a success there.”
