NEW MILLS have appointed former Wythenshawe Town boss Garry Brown as their new manager – their fourth in the past three months.

NEW MILLS have appointed former Wythenshawe Town boss Garry Brown as their new manager – their fourth in the past three months.

Roy Soule stepped down in June and was replaced by former Stalybrice Celtic manager Keith Briggs, who himself left just weeks later after being offered a coaching job at Sheffield United.

Briggs’ assistant Andy Fearn, who had Manchester City Shaun Goater helping him, took over before the start of the season but he quit after Saturday’s 7-1 home defeat to Prescot Cables.

The result left them bottom of the Evo-Stik NPL Division One North having lost all eight of their league games so far. They have scored just four goals and conceded 30.

Brown is now the man tasked with getting the Millers firing and he comes with plenty of success already in the dugout.

Last season he led Wythenshawe Town to 39 consecutive victories as they won the Cheshire League Two as well as the Manchester FA Amateur Cup, the JA Walton Challenge Cup and the Altrincham FA Senior Cup.

The former Glossop North End chief will have Paul Williams and Lee McGregor assisting him at Church Lane.

A club statement read: “The club wishes to announce that manager Andy Fearn tendered his resignation following Saturday’s defeat to Prescot Cables.

“Andy has worked with great honesty, integrity and endeavour since taking over from Keith Briggs in difficult circumstances during pre-season.

“Joining with immediate effect are Garry Brown who brings along Paul Williams and Lee McGregor as his assistants. Last season, the three of them guided Wythenshawe Town to thirty nine consecutive victories in The Cheshire League and a number of Cup successes.

“The trio are immediately looking to strengthen the playing squad and have two training sessions this week before their first home game in charge at home to Bamber Bridge next Saturday.”
