CHRIS HARDY has stepped down as manager of Guisborough Town to take over at Evo-Stik NPL Premier side Whitby Town.

The 40-year-old has replaced former Sunderland defender Darren Williams who was axed last week with the Seasiders struggling in the relegation places.

Hardy took over at Guisborough in February 2008 and guided them to promotion as Northern League Division Two runners-up in 2011. He has since made them one of the Northern League’s most formidable sides.

Known for his attractive passing style of play, Hardy decided the Whitby job was just too good to turn down, leaving Guisborough fourth in the Northern League Division One.

He will be assisted by Lee Bullock at the Turnbull Ground after the former Bradford City and York midfielder led the Seasiders to a 4-1 win against Mickleover Sports in his only game in caretaker charge.

A Guisborough statement read: “Guisborough Town wish to place on record our sincere thanks and appreciation to Chris for the tremendous work he has done for the club over the nine years he has been with us.  We would also like to wish Chris every success in his new role at Whitby Town.

“Guisborough Town is also delighted to announce that the remaining management team of Stephen Dowling and David Markham will continue to manage team affairs at Guisborough Town.”
