REGARDLESS of the result on the final game of the season, Marine fans know they will be able to either celebrate with a pint of cider or drown their sorrows with a guest ale after the club announced their first ever beer festival.

The event will run at the club’s Marine Travel Arena Stadium from Thursday April 14 until Saturday April 16 and will coincide with the Mariners’ final game of the season against Ramsbottom United.

Boss Sean Hessey, who took over as manager last February, led the club to six wins and five draws from their final 12 games of last term – including a final day win at Blyth Spartans – to remain at Step 3.

Tuesday’s home defeat to Buxton left Hessey’s side two places and three points above the relegation places and it looks like it’ll be another nervy end to the season.

Whatever the result against Ramsbottom, who are bottom of the league, fans will have plenty of beverages to choose from including 12 cask ales and a cask cider on sale for £1.50 per half pint.

Chairman Paul Leary said: “This is our first beer festival and I am delighted to have such a diverse range of real ales available over the three days.

“It is hoped that the event, with free admission, will become an annual festival timed so nicely at the end of each season.

“I would like to thank Kevin Murphy, managing director of Rent A Space self-storage for agreeing to be headline sponsor and I am looking forward to working with the numerous volunteers who are to assist in making our first ever festival a real success for Marine Football Club.”
