Colin Brookes to step down as chairman of Halesowen Town

COLIN BROOKES will end a 21-year association with Halesowen Town at the end of the season after announcing his intention to step down as the club’s chairman.

Brookes, 74, previously served as the Yeltz’s general manager and filled in as the club’s caretaker manager on four occasions.

He was made chairman four-and-a-half seasons ago and oversaw the Evo-Stik NPL Division One South title win in 2013-14.

Now consolidated at Step 3, Barnsley-born Brookes will be taking a step back in the summer with the Yeltz now searching for a replacement.

In an open letter to club director Steve Lynch, Brookes said: “I will be standing down as chairman of Halesowen Town Football Club at the end of the season.

“When the club invited me to become chairman four-and-a-half seasons ago, it was a very proud moment in my football life of over 50 years.

“During this time the club has gone from strength to strength and my thanks go out to all those wonderful people behind the scenes who have made it possible.

“I believe that this is the right time for both me and the club for me to stand down as chairman and I am sure the club is now in a position to continue to progress both on and off the pitch.

“My congratulations to John Hill and all his staff and the players for the fantastic job they have done other the last four seasons. John is certainly one of the best managers I have worked with in my 21 years with Halesowen Town.”

Boss John Hill added: “It has been an absolute privilege to have had Colin Brookes as my chairman to work under. Myself, Matt Clarke (assistant) and all of my staff have the utmost respect for Colin.
