COLWYN BAY have sacked boss Kevin Lynch after the 3-0 Easter Monday home defeat to his former club Marine left them nine points adrift of safety in the Evo-Stik NPL Premier.

Lynch left Marine at the end of the 2012-13 season after four successful seasons in charge and took over as Colwyn Bay boss in October, replacing Ash Hoskin.

The Seagulls managed just four wins under Lynch and Monday’s defeat – their seventh in nine matches – saw them remain second bottom of the table with eight games left.

Bay were relegated from the Conference North last season and captain Carl Rodgers and Luke Denson have been put in temporary charge as the club try and avoid a second successive drop.

Vice chairman Kurtis Chapman told the club’s website: “The board feel that despite all the changes Kevin has made to the squad, things have not improved since he came in. He has had plenty of time, but a lot of the performances, particularly at home, have been well below the standard required.

“It is very disappointing because we thought Kevin would prove a good appointment and had been in talks with him about planning for next season, but it has become clear for a while that things were not working.

“We hope that Bruno (Rodgers) and Luke (Denson) will now be able to foster the same spirit in the team that we had when Rob Hopley and Mike Lea were briefly in charge, until a new manager is appointed.

“It may be that some players will want to leave, but we will have no hesitation in bringing in some of the Reserves (they won 10-1 on Monday to take another step towards winning their championship) if needed.

“We would ask the supporters to stick with us and give the team and the club all the support they can during this very difficult period.”
