Sheffield FC snap up former Sheffield Wednesday star Humphreys

The 39-year-old striker is probably best known for his long-lasting spell at Hartlepool United, but came through the ranks at Sheffield Wednesday, going on to make 68 appearances during his five years at Hillsborough.

HE’S already a legend in one half of the Steel City, now Ritchie Humphreys is ready to make his mark at the world’s oldest football club.

The 39-year-old striker is probably best known for his long-lasting spell at Hartlepool United, but came through the ranks at Sheffield Wednesday, going on to make 68 appearances during his five years at Hillsborough.

Now, he is playing his trade at Step 4 having made his debut for Evo-Stik League South side Sheffield FC in their 3-0 defeat at Carlton Town on Saturday.

Since making his Premier League debut for the Owls in 1995, Humphreys went on make over 500 Football League appearances in the North East with Pools, taking in spells at Cambridge United and Port Vale along the way.

In 2013, Humphreys, a UEFA A licence coach, was made chairman of the Professional Footballers’ Association – the year he joined League Two Chesterfield – and remains in his post today.

He went onto make 66 appearances for the Spireites before leaving the club in June.
