There was an early scare as Sam Sheridan’s loose pass out of defence allowed Nathan Cotterell to cross but the returning Josh Granite averted danger.
Ashton made the breakthrough on six minutes when Sheridan’s long pass picked out Liam Tomsett, whose header had just enough power to beat Myles Boney.
Midway through the half, Tobias Mullarkey strode forward for the Dabbers but fired straight at Josh Ollerenshaw.
