SOUTH Shields kept up their title challenge while inflicting more misery on bottom of the table Stafford but it was a much closer game than may have been anticipated.
Stafford gave as good as they got for the opening exchanges with Brad Grayson firing wide and a Robert Thompson-Brown free kick going inches over. Man to hook home from 15 yards out.
For the first time, Shields looked vulnerable as Stafford sought an equaliser, but they never really troubled Miles Boney.
