■ MARINE survived a scare to win against ten men. The first half went the way of the Mariners and they took the lead after 17 minutes when Owen Watkinson nodded home at the back post.
David Raven had a goal ruled out for offside moments before Mark Howarth doubled the lead on the half-hour mark with a close-range finish.
It went from bad to worse for Widnes when Luke Wall was sent off for a late challenge seven minutes before the break.
