SOUTH Shields returned to winning ways and ended their three-game run of defeats with a hard-fought narrow victory over bottom side Belper Town.
The Mariners almost got off to the perfect start just two minutes in when Michael Woods struck the post from close range.
Shield’s best chance of an opener after that fell to captain Blair Adams who only had to get his effort on target to open the scoring at the back post, but instead blazed his effort over.
